excuse me, you recently related a post with a tag asking if people remembered when people cared about recoining things and I’ve been thinking about it and I’m wondering if you meant that caring about recoining was good or bad?

We dislike re-coining. I don't have the spoons to explain the full part of it, but it mostly comes down to our more general criticisms of the extent of individualism in the MOGAI community (recoins, especially when they are of terms that have already been coined many times, often feel as though they are disregarding the contributions of other coiners, as well as ignoring the community symbol purpose of flags) and it feels disrespectful to the work of archivists. Every time we see another gender related to the song I/Me/Myself by Will Wood and nothing else, we feel like our work and our efforts in not only preventing terms from being lost as well as making them so easy to search for is, uh. Pointless. Not valued. We've spoken about this with some other archivists who have said they feel the same.

There are five (5) genders related to that song on our blog alone, by the way, and that's only counting the ones that have no other specifications. There are also five (5) related to the album Everything Is A Lot, and four (4) related to the song Thermodynamic Lawyer, and four (4) related to The Normal Album. Again, this is only counting ones without any other specifications, and are only the ones posted on our blog. This is a regular thing.

does anyone else notice that autistics, singlets, and other neurodivergent people have a different idea of “authenticity” and “being yourself” than neurotypical people, and the neurotypical version wants to control you and keep you unhappy?

like someone noticed i wasn’t happy with my college major and after my first semester i took more classes that weren’t to do with my major and even sat in on lectures i wasn’t a part of because i wanted to learn. i never really got to explore my interests or find out what i was good at, my first major was communications (because it was recommended by counselors) which was a terrible fit for me, a person who struggles with communication skills. i basically cheated my way through and graduated with a 2 year degree and mostly theatre-related credits. i saw an advertisement for film school and thought it might be a good fit, so i applied and got in. when i saw what it was actually like, i knew it wasn’t for me and i didn’t fit with the values of the film industry. but my parents wanted me to stick with it.

a family friend heard about this and said i “wasn’t accepting myself” and had to accept being a film major and that film was my talent. i was at war with myself if i didn’t. film was my “calling”.

i’m changing my major to environmental science (starting in the summer) and i wonder why something like a college major is supposed to define you. a lot of people change their majors, maybe we’re put under too much pressure too young to decide what we want. college majors are supposed to be a choice. i don’t see the problem with people doing what makes them happy.

i’m glad i got to learn about a variety of things even if i won’t use them in the future, but i don’t understand why society wants us to stick with what we did in the past. aren’t you being yourself just by existing? i can’t be anyone else.

I started a new WIP and every time i do this i try to take a different approach and something that is really helping me right now is actually something that my teachers did for me in school:

I've been to two schools my entire life (im still in high school lol) and in both schools they made it a point to make sure literacy skills and reading was important, so that meant we read a lot of books throughout the school year and something that they always did before we started reading those books was giving us driving questions that we'd write a sort of opinion-evidence based essay on at the end.

And that brings me to my point, if anyone is struggling with finding theme or the message of a story ask yourself what you want your readers to question at the end of the story you are trying to tell, and then give them the answers to those questions through characters and their actions.

Personally, the questions Im proposing to my readers is broad in the sense that it is completely dependent on the readers own morals and views.

So yeah! I know no one asked but that is something that is really helping me not only find theme but figure out the plot, world building and most importantly characters and their arcs :)

when you are authentic, the feeling of dysregulation goes away. but we are not always in a position to be authentic and trauma/shame might hold us back.

but it is impossible to be authentic and dysregulated at the same time. it's one or the other.

Writing update day 4!

It's been a minute! I haven't written in a good week buttt I have a full week off school so I'm gonna get on my grind ;)

Anyways heres the update:

Complete Chapters - 5 (i decided to combine chapters)

Words written - 5,476

Time - around three hours

Total words: 17k

Also this might be a little unhinged but i wrote this much at 3 am - 6am ☹️ and its the most i've ever written in one go and I've been writing since 2022
